President Obama on Thursday reiterated that he would not use executive action to prevent further deportations of undocumented immigrants living in the United States.

“That already stretched my administrative capacity,” he said at a town hall event about his order to stop deporting DREAMers, undocumented immigrants who came to the country as children, according to a White House pool report.

He said that he is limited in what he is able to do about deportations.

“I can not ignore those laws,” he said.

When asked about whether his credibility on immigration reform has taken a hit because of the number of deportations under his administration, Obama said he didn’t think so.

“I think the community understands I’ve got their back and I’m
fighting for them,” he said.
