When they head to the polls for the Republican primary in May, voters in North Carolina will be asked to weigh in on an amendment to the state Constitution banning same-sex marriage (which is already illegal in the Tar Heel State.) The move is notable because the Obama White House has avoided referencing specific states by name in statements issued by the White House about pending marriage and domestic partnership initiatives and referenda.
