Trump Has ‘No Idea’ If His Birtherism Hurt Him With Black Voters

September 7, 2016 7:04 a.m.

During a discussion Tuesday night about Donald Trump’s attempt to reach out to black voters with a visit to Detroit, Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly asked the Republican nominee if his past comments questioning whether President Obama was born in the United States hurt him with black voters.

“Do you think your birther position has hurt you among African-Americans?” O’Reilly asked.

“I don’t know. I have no idea. I don’t even talk about it anymore,” Trump replied.

“I guess with maybe some,” he added. “I don’t know why.”

Trump then told O’Reilly he is “the first one that’s brought that up in a while,” before pivoting to describe his visit to Detroit as a “love fest.”
