National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor said in a statement Friday the U.S. is in “constant contact” with the Algerian government regarding the current hostage situation at a gas field, where Islamist militants are holding Westerners captive. President Obama is receiving regular updates on the situation, he said. The U.S. is also in touch with international partners and the BP security office in London, Vietor said. BP operates the gas field in Algeria.
