South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) is putting together a plan to remove the Confederate battle flag on the Capitol grounds, according to local station.

A source told South Carolina TV station WIS that the governor is trying to find a way to bring down the flag, which remains on display on the Capitol grounds.

A reporter for South Carolina newspaper the Post and Courier also tweeted on Monday morning that Haley would address the display of the flag in a press conference at 4 p.m. EDT.

After the killing of nine black people at a Bible study in Charleston on Wednesday, many have called for the governor to remove the flag, a symbol of the slave-holding confederacy and one embraced by suspect Dylann Roof.

The Post and Courier reporter, Schuyler Kropf, tweeted that multiple lawmakers” had been “on conference calls today about the issue” and added that lawmakers felt there was a way to come together and remove the flag.

  2. The only way the Confederate battle flag will come down in South Carolina is if businesses start worrying that it will badly impact their bottom line.

  3. I agree, and I wonder if this could be motivating something. Maybe an Indiana-ish situation.

It would be kind of odd to call a big conference to announce that it’s staying up…

  4. True, but it would also be odd for Lucy to set up that football just to yank it away…

  5. I figure she must have gotten a call from a CEO or two, as they’re whom she’s running the state for.
