Former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said Thursday that President Barack Obama lost the confidence of the American people over broken health care promises.

Fox News host Megyn Kelly pointed out that Romney predicted during his 2012 campaign that Americans would be dropped from their insurance plans under Obamacare.

“Do you believe the American people should trust this president?” she asked.

“Well, I think they’ve lost the confidence they had in him,” Romney replied.

“During the campaign and in the months afterward, the president consistently said that if people had insurance they liked, they could keep it. They could keep their doctor, prices weren’t going to go up.” he added. “These things turned out not to be true. And I think the breach of that promise is something which has very seriously eroded the president’s capacity to lead at a very critical time.”

Aside from the breach of that now-infamous campaign promise, Romney said that the implementation of the health care law itself was an “unmitigated mess.” The U.S. Treasury announced the latest tweak to the law on Monday, delaying the employer mandate for some small businesses for another year.

“I think it’s been very disappointing and very revealing to see the president go through and make these changes, which is a very tacit, and in fact explicit recognition that the law isn’t working and that this administration has not done the job they said they would do,” he said.
