Fox has picked up the Miss Universe pageant, which was previously co-owned by NBC Universal and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, and plans to air it in December, Variety reported Wednesday.
Trump bought out NBC Universal after the two severed ties over comments Trump made about Mexican immigrants. Days after purchasing it, Trump sold the pageant to the talent agency and marketing firm WME-IMG.
“Miss Universe is a unique, global media property and this partnership with Fox marks a new era for The Miss Universe Organization as a whole,” said company executive Michael Antinoro, as quoted by Variety.
The 64th annual pageant is scheduled to be broadcasted from Las Vegas on Dec. 20 from 7 to 10 p.m. ET, according to Variety.
Excellent strategic move by FOX, shoring up the pageant-to-curvy-couch pipeline.
Fox tries to improve its dipping viewership numbers. Unfortunately, sexy does not mix well with old and angry.
And they can have Rupert Murdoch hosting the show. They’ll just be exchanging one creepy megalomaniac for another.
Viagra consumption will skyrocket on broadcast night.
This’ll be The Donald’s pipeline out of the race when he decides he’s bored and it’s too much work to maintain the fiction; he’ll cite “conflict of interest”, exit the race, become again a favored and well-paid FOX commentator. Hundred bucks says he’s already had that conversation with the Fox brass.
