Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) on Wednesday night said he took on the Clintons and “lived to tell about it,” invoking old conspiracy theories that Hillary Clinton had something to do with the suicide of her husband’s former White House counsel, Vince Foster.

“I’m the only guy that has consistently fought the Clinton machine every election I was ever in over the past 26 years,” Huckabee said during CNBC’s Republican presidential primary debate. “Not only did I fight them but I beat them. Somebody says ‘I’m a fighter.’ Well, I want to know did you win? Well, I did. Not only did I fight them and win, I lived to tell about it. I’m standing on this stage tonight as evidence of that and I think that ought to be worth something.”

Huckabee didn’t mention Foster by name, but the audience knowingly laughed when the former governor said he “lived to tell about” beating the Clintons.
