Conservatives should “stop the fight” over Common Core and instead consider the benefits that the academic standards offer students in struggling schools, Huckabee said. Mike Huckabee signed an open letter from the World Congress of Families to the people of Australia that labeled gays as “sexual radicals.”

The WCF is planning to hold an anti-gay marriage conference in Australia’s parliament building on Wednesday and has met with opposition from activists, thereby prompting the letter, according to reports from BuzzFeed Australia. The WCF is based in Illinois and openly denounces gay marriage, divorce, single parents and abortion.

Huckabee himself has also been vocal in opposing gay marriage, comparing it to polygamy and likening the fight against gay marriage legislation to standing up against Hitler, per Newsweek.

The letter used the phrase “sexual radicals” to describe gays and activists who have made it difficult for the WCF to organize its conference.

“Sexual radicals have launched a smear campaign to discredit the Melbourne conference, which misrepresents the international pro-family movement and the positions of the World Congress of Families.”
