Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) on Sunday condemned Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling’s racist remarks.

“Well in our country, we have a First Amendment, which allows ignorant racists to say whatever they want to say. However, I hope the NBA takes swift action against this man,” she said on CBS’ “Face the Nation” when asked what could be done about Sterling’s comments. “I can’t imagine how it must feel to be one of the African-Americans playing on his team, how they must feel today, knowing that the owner of the team is obviously such an ignorant racist.”

Sterling told his girlfriend not to bring black people to his games, according to audio obtained by TMZ. On Sunday, Deadspin published extended audio, in which Sterling blames his request on “culture.”

The National Basketball League is investigating the audio recording, and the Clippers have released a statement saying that the tape does not reflect Sterling’s views.
