Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) believes writing off Sen. Marco Rubio’s (R-FL) chances as a 2016 presidential candidate would be “foolish.”
McCain and Rubio worked together to pass comprehensive immigration in the Senate, but received backlash from conservatives for the “amnesty” portion of the bill, leading some to say that Rubio squandered his chances for a 2016 run.
“I think it’s just foolish,” McCain told The Arizona Republic on Friday. “I’m not endorsing anyone, but I can tell you Marco Rubio is an articulate spokesperson for what conservatives believe in, in principle. And if we pass immigration reform, which is certainly not clear, he would get enormous credit for it.”
