Matt Taibbi said Friday he’s disappointed that he was unable to finish the work he started at First Look Media, the startup launched by eBay founder Pierre Omidyar last year.

“I am sad that it didn’t work out,” Taibbi said during an interview on HuffPost Live. “I’m sad for the people who are still working there. As happy as I am to be back working with Rolling Stone, with whom I’ve always had a great relationship, this was intended to be the launch story for Racket and I’m sad about that.”

Taibbi declined to delve into specifics, saying he thought it would be inappropriate to talk about his erstwhile employer. Most of the interview was spent discussing his big profile on JPMorgan Chase whistle-blower Alayne Fleischmann. The piece was supposed to launch Racket, the digital magazine he was hired to lead at First Look.

But after his ignominious departure from First Look, the story was instead published this week by Rolling Stone, the magazine where Taibbi worked for more than 15 years before he was hired by Omidyar in February.
