Former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) and husband Mark Kelly included National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre in their ALS ice bucket challenge.
Giffords and Kelly, of course, are the couple that started Americans for Responsible Solutions after Giffords suffered a gunshot wound to the head during a shooting rampage at a campaign event. Americans for Responsible Solutions advocates for stronger gun control restrictions, pitting it against the NRA.
The couple nominated Scott Kelly, Mark’s brother, their friend Jimmy Hatch, and then LaPierre. It’s one of the many videos that has become an internet meme where someone either challenges others to pour cold water on themselves or donate to help fight Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). A number of lawmakers have taken up the ice bucket challenge.
“And finally, Wayne LaPierre, the head of the National Rifle Association, who we do hope one day we can agree upon more than just supporting ALS and Lou Gehrig’s disease research,” Kelly said right before the bucket of water was poured on him.
