In a hotly contested House race in New Mexco’s 1st Congressional district, Bernalillo County Commissioner Michelle Lujan Grisham beat progressive favorite state Sen. Eric Griego for the Democratic nomination, 40 percent to 35 percent. Griego was backed by the Progressive Change Campaign Committee. Of the three top Democrats vying for the spot, Lujan Grisham threaded the needle between moderate and Progressive. Lujan Grisham is now the favorite to beat Republican former state Rep. Janice Arnold-Jones for the seat being vacated by Rep. Martin Heinrich, who won the Democratic Senate nomination Tuesday.
