“The Late Show” host David Letterman hasn’t given up his throne to successor Stephen Colbert just yet, but he already has a suggestion for his replacement’s first guest.
Hounded by TMZ to suggest a guest for Colbert’s first episode, the late night host snapped a few photos with fans before offering his pick.
“Vladimir Putin,” Letterman said, in a video published to YouTube on Sunday.
“It’s the first clear sign Stephen Colbert will not be abandoning politics for entertainment when he takes over from David Letterman…and the clue comes from Dave himself,” the video description reads.
Incidentally, Letterman had previously called for Putin’s assassination, via SEAL Team Six, on his “The Late Show.”

I can’t believe we have to wait all the way till May or June for Colbert to take over the show. What a long way to go without my nightly dose of truthiness.
TMZ: where you gotta go to get the real news. Kinda like Fux
TMZ “hounds” someone in a public place… and TPM reports on the hounding.
It’s hard to decide which is more pathetic.
TPM’s coverage is worse because they are taking Letterman’s answer seriously, when in reality he probably just said something to get the hounding paps away. I can see TPM outsourcing to Politico or AP for stories, but TMZ is ridiculous!
I hear Colbert’s debut is set for August.
