Host Larry Wilmore opened Wednesday’s episode of “The Nightly Show” by paying his respects to those affected by the mass shooting in San Bernardino, Calif.
“This is really unacceptable,” Wilmore said.
The details of the shooting and suspect pursuit were unfolding as the show taped.
“It’s just so overwhelming. It’s happening too fucking much,” Wilmore said. “Let me just see if I can put it in perspective for you: There have been 355 mass shootings this year and we are only in calendar day 336.”
“This has really got to stop,” Wilmore said. “Anyhow, enough talking about shootings from this year, let’s talk about a shooting from last year,” Wilmore said, moving into a segment on Laquan McDonald, the Chicago teenager who was shot 16 times by police.

Wilmore On San Bernardino Shooting: ‘This Is Really Unacceptable’
#Republican Party: "NO IT ISN’T! …SPEAK FOR YOURSELF."
How much more unacceptable does it need to get before we think about restricting access to guns?
If twenty grade school kids can be gunned down, there will never be anything that is too unacceptable.
It’s truly breathtaking how effectively the GOP scare and propaganda machine (at the behest of the NRA, FOX Noise, Rightie Baggerland Nutballs and the political tools that operate under that umbrella) has been in turning “…a well regulated militia” into an all out push to put guns and assorted lethal weaponry into the hands of every somewhat sentient creature in this country’s populace…and all in the name of “freedom.” Truly American Exceptionalism, huh?
I tend to agree. There was a “mass shooting” in Savannah yesterday as well (4 deaths), and it was so passe it didn’t even get coverage. And another one in Milton Florida (2 deaths).
Its disconcerting to me that I would actually argue Wilmore’s statistics in this based on what is considered a “mass shooting” anymore.
But I don’t expect the corner to be turned any time soon.
