Bill Kristol of the Weekly Standard said that Mitt Romney has to have “a good answer” heading into the first debate Wednesday to questions about whether his tax plan adds up. On the “Fox News Sunday” Panel Plus, Kristol said that Romney will not win the election if the Obama campaign is successful in defining his tax plan.
“They’ve talked themselves into being a little too risk averse,” Kristol said. “He’s gotta be mature and sensible and assume the American public is willing to hear some hard truths and explain his tax plan.”
“It’s crazy for him to be losing a tax debate to President Obama,” he continued. “A Republican’s not going to win the presidency if he can’t win the tax debate.”
