Former presidential candidate Ohio Gov. John Kasich said on Sunday that Donald Trump will struggle to win the state of Ohio because he’s divisive.

“He’s going to win parts of Ohio where people are really hurting and where people of both parties have failed to fix our education system,” Kasich said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “But I still think it’s difficult if you are dividing to be able to win in Ohio. I think it’s really, really difficult.”

The Ohio governor said that he has been under some pressure to back Trump, but indicated that he’s still not ready to support the Republican nominee.

“I’ve had a lot of people pound on me about you need to do this, you need to do this, this is about the party,” he told CNN. “And I love my party, but I love my country. And I have to be true to myself. I wish that I could be fully enthusiastic. I can’t be.”

But he added that he doesn’t “know what’s going to happen at the end.”

“There’s so much water over the dam now, it’s become increasingly difficult. But I want, you know, unifying,” he said when asked if Trump could earn his support.

Kasich also confirmed that one of his aides said that Donald Trump Jr. called to inquire about Kasich’s interest in being vice president.

“I was never interested in being anybody’s vice president,” the governor told CNN.
