Republican presidential candidate and Ohio Gov. John Kasich told NBC host Chuck Todd that he needed to “calm down” after he asked the GOP hopeful about his proposed Judeo-Christian government agency.
Kasich had said last week that he wanted to create a government agency to teach Judeo-Christian, Western values throughout the world. He later walked that back and said he wanted to expand the existing government broadcast agency, Voice of America to serve the purpose.
But Kasich’s temper flared a bit when NBC “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd told him it sounded “a little anti-Islam.”
“Tell me why I’m wrong about that,” Todd said.
“Chuck you need to calm down,” Kasich said. “What I have said is when I look at Voice of America or Radio Liberty, what I’ve argued is the Western ethic, what is it about? It’s about life, it’s about equality of women, it’s about the freedom of religion. It’s not about going to church, that’s not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about that every life has real meaning.”
Kasich got one more shot in on the subject.
“And if you had read more carefully what you would have noticed is that I’ve invited moderate Muslims into this discussion as well,” Kasich said.
