Republican presidential candidate and retied neurosurgeon Ben Carson said Sunday that he talked with Kanye West and was “extremely impressed” with his business savviness.

Popular rap artist West called Carson “brilliant” in an interview with Vanity Fair published Thursday. West also said that he was “definitely” still thinking about running for President in 2020, an announcement he had made at the Video Music Awards last month.

“As soon as I heard (Ben) Carson speak, I tried for three weeks to get on the phone with him,” West said in the interview. “I was like this is the most brilliant guy.”

Carson said on ABC’s “This Week” that he was impressed with West’s business savviness.

“Well, I am certainly willing to give him a chance,” Carson said Sunday. “He’ll be able to explain things and see if he resonates with the people.”

Carson also said that he talked with West.

“I did have an opportunity to talk with him. I was extremely impressed with his business acumen. He knows a lot about business,” Carson added. “I talked to him about the possibility of maybe himself and some of the other people in pop culture doing some music that might be uplifting that might give young women a sense of their value and young men a sense of responsibility. I think it could be a tremendous thing in our society.”

Does Ben realize who Kanye is married to?

  2. Some human being? I do my best not to follow the private lives of celebrities.

And the thing is, there are a lot of artists who do that kind of music. Kanye West isn’t exactly known for doing that kind of music. The problem isn’t that the uplifting music and writing isn’t out there. The problem is that, when you live in poverty with next to no way to get out other than in a body bag, there isn’t much uplifting music or writing can do.

  3. Carson strikes me as an automaton capable of reacting to various stimuli in a way that crudely approximates how an actual human might respond. If he meets a black musician he gets out his 11 index cards and reads the one about how rap music is the sole source of any problem in minority communities.

There’s a tradition of this in artificial intelligence and before that in toy manufacture:
