John Oliver: Calling Mental Health System A ‘Clusterf*ck’ Is ‘Insult To Clusterf*cks’ (VIDEO)

Following the killings in Roseburg, Ore., “Last Week Tonight” detailed just how screwed up America’s mental healthcare system is because of (but not limited to) inaction, stigma and budget cuts.

As host John Oliver put it: “Our system needs a massive overhaul.”

“The public safety net for the mentally ill spans Medicaid, which is different across the country; eight federal agencies who administer 112 different programs that in some way touch on mental health; and the social services agencies in each of the 50 states. It is a clusterfuck,” Oliver said. “Except that’s an insult to clusterfucks because at least in them there’s the potential of a satisfying ending. This is more of a frustrating cluster-dry hump of something.”

Let Oliver explain the history of mental healthcare in America and possible solutions. Watch the episode, from HBO, below:

  1. People with mental illness are by in large the victims of gun violence and not violent.

  2. Yeah, Congress is gonna be right on that. Spend-a-phobia is a republican disease along the lines of mental illness…keep thinking/doing the same wrong things in hopes they will be true.
