House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) is reportedly reserving judgement on whether Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki should resign.

Boehner, at a press conference on Thursday morning, refused to say whether Shinseki should step down in the wake a new report from the VA’s internal watchdog on how a VA hospital in Phoenix, Arizona dramatically underreported average wait times for patients.

An increasing number of lawmakers have been calling for Shinseki to step down over the past few days. President Barack Obama remains undecided on whether Shinseki should step down, according to Politico.

  1. Wow, good for Boehner! I never thought I’d write that.

Maybe Shinseki is the problem, maybe he’s not. Maybe he needs to go in order to fix the problem, maybe he doesn’t. It’s going to take a close read of the situation to answer those questions.

Calling for the head of that guy you’ve heard of because you want to do something is cheap, irresponsible leadership. It would have been so easy for Boehner to grandstand about “Obama’s Cabinet Secretary,” and he isn’t.

    Good for him.

  2. “This is more than about phony lists.”

    But of course…of course…

    BENGHAZI!!!

  3. I agree that Boner is for once not joining the bleating sheep, but at the same time I cannot see him staying with this position and even offering a defense of Shinseki’s handling of the VA for too much longer. Smaller minds than his will urge him to issue a condemnation before too long because it would be risky not to and Boner doesn’t take risks…

  4. Wow. John Boehner is the voice of reason in the room.
Now to go shit my pants.
