Vice President Joe Biden was met with palpable excitement Wednesday night at the Democratic National Convention and whipped the crowd into a frenzy with a rousing anti-Donald Trump speech.

“I know Hillary Clinton,” Biden said, telling the crowd that electing the first woman president would change the lives of America’s “daughters and granddaughters.”

“That’s Hillary Clinton’s life story. She’s always there, she’s always been there,” he continued on, shifting to a “deadly serious” tone as he characterized a GOP nominee driven by a “lack of empathy and compassion” whose “cynicism is unbounded.”

“No major party, no major party nominee in the history of this nation has ever known less or has been less prepared to deal with our national security,” Biden said of Trump. “Donald Trump, with all his rhetoric, would literally make us less safe.”

“We cannot elect a man who exploits our fears of ISIS and other terrorists, who has no plan whatsoever to make us safer,” he continued.

Trump “embraces the tactics of our enemies,” Biden said, while he “belittles our closest allies while embracing dictators like Vladimir Putin.”

The vice president, who was long favored as a 2016 contender before announcing he would not run, finished with a rallying cry for pride in the country.

“We are America, second to none. We own the finish line, don’t forget it,” he said to loud cheers. “Come on! We’re America!”
