Potential presidential nominee and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) said on Thursday that President Obama’s views on Israel stem from his “identity with” other countries in the Middle East.

“This administration in general, and this president in particular, has an extraordinary disdain for Israel in general, and Benjamin Netanyahu in particular. And it’s just inexplicable,” Huckabee said on NewxmaxTV’s “Steve Malzberg Show,” according to a clip highlighted by Buzzfeed News.

Host Steve Malzberg then asked Huckabee why the president feels that way about Israel.

“It’s hard for me to understand that. The only thing I can fathom is he has an extraordinary sense of identity with, sympathy for, many of the other Middle Eastern nations,” Huckabee responded.

“I think he resents the strength of Israel,” he continued. “I think he resents very much the strength of Benjamin Netanyahu, who is absolutely forthright in his understanding of what the threats are with Islamic jihadism, a term that President Obama cannot bring himself to utter, nor can his administration.”
