Hillary Clinton is a fan of Lana Del Rey and Missy Elliot. And she knows all the members of Fifth Harmony. Do you?
Don’t worry if you can’t pick up all her name drops, because the former secretary of state was talking about some of the most successful and hardworking women in music she admires in an essay for Billboard magazine published Thursday.
“I’ve been listening to some of these women for years. Others I recently discovered,” Clinton wrote, probably referring to Loretta Lynn and Selena Gomez, respectively. “Now I’m a fan of them all. Their talent is dazzling. So is their work ethic. None of these women had success handed to her. They all had to keep at it, even in the face of failure and discouragement — they kept singing, kept writing, kept getting better and better.”
The essay coincides with the magazine’s Women in Music honors.
“My hope is that women and girls around the world will hear these artists’ songs, learn their stories and feel a greater sense of possibility for their own lives,” Clinton wrote.
So … any plans for, you know, governing the country?
I’m being sensitive here, but this kind of bothers me. I know she wrote this before the San Bernadino massacre and they just published today, but it bothers me.
