The U.S. Postal Service will release a postage stamp featuring gay rights icon and former San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk on May 22, Harvey Milk Day, Linns Stamp News reported Monday.

The stamp will be the first to feature an openly-gay elected official, and it will contain an image of the LGBT rights rainbow flag.

Officials are considering San Francisco and Washington, D.C. as potential opening day cities, according to Linns.

Milk was the first openly gay official to person to be elected to a political office in California. He won a seat on San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors in 1977, and was assassinated in 1978 by a former city supervisor.
