Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) has added a former U.S. attorney to the private legal team being assembled to deal with reported state and federal investigations into gifts he and his family have received during his time in office.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported on Tuesday that John Brownlee, former U.S. attorney for the Western District of Virginia, had joined McDonnell’s legal effort. Brownlee is currently a partner at Holland & Knight, and in 2009 he lost the Republican nomination for attorney general to current Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli.
