Schools are failing students with a lack of gun and Bible education, according to a U.S. Senate candidate in South Dakota.

In a 17-second video posted on her Facebook page last week, Dr. Annette Bosworth addressed what she thinks schools are lacking.

“I think there are two things that are not taught in our schools that should be: one is gun safety and the other one is values and religion,” she said, brandishing a gun and a Bible.

Bosworth announced her intention to run for Senate in July. A poll released last month showed her running well behind former Gov. Mike Rounds (R) among GOP primary voters in South Dakota.

In an interview with television station KELO, Bosworth defended her proposal to add gun safety to education curricula.

“We have guns in most of our homes in this state – we should teach gun safety,” she said.
