In Iowa Thursday, Gingrich signed the Americans for Securing the Border pledge which is a promise to build a “secure multi-layered fence” along the U.S. border with Mexico by the end of 2013.
The Des Moines Register reports such a project could cost taxpayers around $49 billion.
