Gingrich Digs In On Romney: ‘Washington Insiders Believe You Should Be Polite While Lying’

Appearing on WHO radio in Des Moines, with host Jan Mickelson, Newt Gingrich commented on his appearance Tuesday morning on CBS News, in which he surprised his interviewer by bluntly calling Mitt Romney a liar.

“I thought it was interesting, because the Washington insiders believe you should be polite while lying, and telling the truth is impolite because it’s disruptive,” Gingrich said dryly.

“And i just thought it was a perfect example of why the country is so sick of the Washington insiders, because they think the country is supposed to be stupid…And I’m just not that sophisticated. I’m still still an Army brat, whose dad was in the infantry. And infantry guys are not all that clever about being lied to.”

He further compared this to President Ronald Reagan going against the advice of the national security establishment, in calling the Soviet Union the “Evil Empire.”

“The national security establishment was apoplectic, because it was so inappropriate to tell the truth about this dictatorship.”
