The Ferguson police officer who fatally shot unarmed black teenager Michael Brown got married in October, The New York Times reported on Monday.

The news of his marriage to fellow Ferguson police officer Barbara Spradling proceeded a decision from the grand jury, expected at any moment, about whether Wilson will be charged in the shooting death of Brown.

The Times reported that records showed Wilson, 28, married Spradling, 37, on Oct. 24. Public records reviewed by the Times showed that both Wilson and Spradling had been married before and revealed that Wilson’s divorce was finalized on Nov. 10, 2013.

Wilson has been on paid administrative leave since August when the shooting occurred. Last week, he was reportedly negotiating his resignation from the Ferguson Police Department in anticipation of a decision from the grand jury.

  1. There is talk in STL that the officer Darren Wilson married may have had to testify against him on an excessive force case.

  2. How nice for Darren Wilson. It is too bad that Michael Brown will never have the opportunity to wed his soul mate and realize his dreams.

  3. There has been WAY too much talk from both sides. I hear Wilson was with the KKK, and the Brown was a gang member, etc. I’ll deal in facts, not the rumor mill.

  4. “The news of his marriage to fellow Ferguson police officer Barbara Spradling proceeded a decision from the grand jury…”

    Proceeded? How about preceded?

  5. Now, you know perfectly well that proof-reading and copy-editing are frowned on at TPM.
