Suspect’s Brother-In-Law ‘In Shock’ After Shooting: ‘Why Would He Do That?’

The brother-in-law of Syed Rizwan Farook, one of the San Bernardino shooting suspects, addressed the public on Wednesday night during a press conference held by Council on American-Islamic Relations.

“I just cannot express how sad I am for what happened today,” Farhan Khan told reporters on Wednesday. “I express my condolences to the people who lost their life.”

Khan said that he last spoke to Farook about a week ago. And when asked if his brother-in-law was religious, Khan told reporters that he didn’t have a comment.

“I have no idea — why would he do that?” he said. “Why would he do something like this? I have absolutely no idea, I am in shock myself.”

Farook was identified by police as one of the suspects who carried out a deadly shooting in San Bernardino, leaving 14 people dead. Police identified Tashfeen Malik as the second shooting suspect, who was Farook’s wife or finacee.

  1. This is confounding. How could they leave their 6 month old baby? I don’t understand that type of behavior.

And sadly now Mr. Khan will likely be subject to death threats himself from Hannity et al enhanced right-wing outrage. I hope he is given some protection.

  3. Mr. Khan did the right thing coming out very early on and expressing his condolences. I don’t know any of the back story here, but I really do feel for this man and his family. They must be pretty shaken.
