Ecuador Foreign Minister: Snowden Asked Ecuador For Asylum

Ecuador’s foreign minister confirmed on Twitter Sunday that Edward Snowden has asked Ecuador for asylum.

Reports earlier today suggested that Snowden, who left Hong Kong this morning for Moscow, would be seeking asylum in Venezuela. But the Ecuadorian ambassador to Russia told reporters, according to the BBC, that he would meet Mr Snowden and a representative from Wikileaks on Sunday.

At this point, it is unknown where exactly Snowden is, but reports suggest that he has not yet left Moscow.

A statement released by Wikileaks said that once Snowden arrives in Ecuador his request will be formally processed.
