After Sen. Tim Johnson (D-SD) officially announced he would not seek re-election in 2014 on Tuesday, Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO), chair of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, promised that the DSCC “will devote all of the resources necessary to win this seat next year.”

“Senator Johnson has been a tireless advocate for South Dakotans and for farm communities across the country,” Bennet said in a statement. “He will be greatly missed in the US Senate. I appreciate that Senator Johnson has made this decision so early in the cycle, giving Democrats the opportunity to build a winning ticket next year. The DSCC will devote all of the resources necessary to win this seat next year, and I am confident that we can elect a new Democratic senator to continue Senator Johnson’s tradition of service to South Dakotans.”
