The Democratic National Committee has launched a new website to draw attention to the fact that student loan interest rates for millions of young Americans are set to double on July 1 if Congress doesn’t act to prevent it.
The interactive website, democrats.org/dontdoublemyrate, invites Americans to share their stories and concerns about the loan rate spiking from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent. Many stories have already been posted on the site, which the DNC says it intends to promote heavily on social media.
Congressional Democrats and Republicans agree on the need to take action to avert the rate hike but continue to disagree on how to go about it.
