State Sen. Wendy Davis’s (D) candidacy for governor gives Democrats their best chance of taking the Texas governor’s mansion from Republicans, Democratic Governor’s Association chairman Peter Shumlin (D) said Thursday.
“I think Wendy Davis gives us the best shot of winning the Texas governor’s mansion in a long time,” Shumlin said Thursday at a Christian Science Monitor breakfast.
Since Davis jumped into the race polling has shown Attorney General Greg Abbott (R), the favored candidate on the Republican side, polling in double digits ahead of Davis. Still, Democrats have repeatedly argued that Davis will wage a competitive race and could very well succeed outgoing Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R).
