Two roadside bombs exploded on the outskirts of Baghdad, killing at least 6 people and wounding more than 50. Friday’s attack is the most recent in a spate of blasts aimed at Shia-majority areas and religious sites, raising the specter of renewed sectarian violence.
The first bomb detonated in Husseiniya, a largely Shia district, as people shopped for groceries. The second bomb followed shortly, hitting the same area. “Fruit and vegetables have been scattered everywhere. Some children were wounded,” said Mudhaffar Khalaf, a
policeman at the scene. “We have started to evacuate the injured people,” he added. The blasts follow on the heels of a suicide attack on Monday in which 15 people were killed while attending a Shia funeral.
