Rep. David Brat (R-VA) said Thursday that he wants to “get to yes” on House Republicans’ bill to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, though he previously voted against the legislation in committee.
“We all want to get to yes, we want to see a very successful Trump agenda, we want to make it happen,” Brat said on Fox News. “But when you’re negotiating one-sixth of the U.S. economy, our promise to our constituents was we’re going to repeal, for six years. It wasn’t repeal and replace. It was we’re going to repeal. And that’s not happening.”
He said that the House may vote on the bill late Thursday evening. A vote on the bill has not yet been officially scheduled.
“I think there may be a vote very late tonight if we get some good news in writing, right? It’s trust but verify up here,” Brat said.
Brat, along with two other Republicans, joined every single Democrat member of the House Budget Committee last week to oppose the bill, which narrowly made it through the committee vote despite the opposition.
