Newark, N.J. Mayor Cory Booker (D) was dealt another encouraging development Thursday in his bid to become a U.S. Senator with reports of a major fundraising haul.
Booker raised $4.6 million in April, May and June for his Senate campaign, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported. He ended the quarter with $4.5 million cash on hand, according to the Inquirer.
Booker is the prohibitive favorite to win this year’s special election to succeed the late Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), who died last month. A Quinnipiac University poll on Tuesday showed Booker crushing both his Democratic rivals in the race to win the party’s nomination and his likely Republican opponent in a hypothetical general election matchup.
