Congress Passes Bill Allowing Electric Car Recharge Stations At Capitol

Both the Senate and the House on Thursday passed companion versions of a bill that would allow the architect of the Capitol building to authorize the construction of electric car recharging stations in the Capitol parking lot, The Hill reported. Michigan Democrats Sen. Carl Levin and Rep. Dale Kildee introduced and championed the bill, which makes sense given that the auto industry, largely centered in Detroit, has recently been introducing more electric vehicles, including the Chevy Volt. It’s unclear how many recharge stations the architect of the Capitol will pursue, but the bill makes it clear that the stations will need to collect enough in customer fees to cover the costs of their construction.
