An Arkansas congressional candidate has officially changed his name before May’s primary election — and the change can be traced back to his displeasure that his given name, he says, sounds like a girl’s.

Conrad Reynolds, who is seeking the GOP nomination in Arkansas’s 2nd congressional district, legally changed his name to “Colonel Conrad Reynolds” because people had come to know the 29-year Army veteran by his rank, CNN reported.

But “Conrad” isn’t Reynolds’ real name either. He was born Conald Reynolds, according to CNN, but didn’t like that it was shortened to Connie — typically a girl’s name — so he started going by Conrad. He picked that name in honor of Robert Conrad, a television actor from the 1960’s.

No word on whether Reynolds is aware of Connie Mack III and IV, a Florida father and son who served in Congress over the last three decades.
