Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) told reporters Thursday that unearthed emails between Republican Chris Christie’s staffers regarding the closure of lanes on the George Washington Bridge look bad for the New Jersey governor.

“I saw the emails — I think they’re really bad. And we’ll see where it goes next,” said Schumer. (The George Washington Bridge runs between New York and New Jersey.)

Schumer declined to elaborate on the politically-charged scandal, saying he hadn’t yet seen Christie’s statement. He didn’t say if Congress should get involved.

“I don’t know if Congress should be investigating this,” he said.
