Tea party favorite Christine O’Donnell’s deliberations over whether to launch another Senate bid next year has Delaware Republicans concerned that her indecision is keeping other prospective candidates on the sidelines, according to a report Tuesday in The News Journal.
The report quoted O’Donnell who, while speaking at a state GOP convention over the weekend, expressed the need to “rebuild the foundation in the party” following her defeat in the 2010 special Senate race.
That contest was considered a prime pick-up opportunity for Republicans, but the nomination of O’Donnell over former Rep. Mike Castle (R-DE) doomed the party’s chances in the general election against Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE). Coons will be up for re-election next year.
It’s clear from the report that the loss in 2010 still stings Republicans in the state.
“She’s contributed to the demise of the Republican Party,” state House Republican leader Dan Short said, according to the News Journal.
