CNN host Chris Cuomo grilled Donald Trump campaign spokesman Jason Miller on the Republican candidate’s refusal to release his tax returns, asking if Miller “has any proof” that Trump even is under audit.
“You love transparency when it’s not you guys. You don’t see any irony in that?” Cuomo asked Miller in an interview on CNN’s “New Day” Monday morning. “Why don’t you release Trump’s taxes if you think transparency is such a good thing?”
“As soon as his audit is completed, those will be released,” Miller said.
Cuomo wasn’t having it. “Do you think anybody believes the audit thing when they’re going to the polls tomorrow?” he asked.
“Absolutely,” Miller said.
“Do you have any proof of an audit?” Cuomo pressed.
Miller laughed. “Yes, of course,” he said.
“Yeah?” Cuomo said. “You do? Have you seen an audit letter?”
“Chris, let’s not get away from the fact—” Miller began.
“That is the fact, though, right?” Cuomo said. “Transparency only works one way in this election where Trump is involved.”
He offered to show Miller an audit letter of his own.
“Well, some day when I get to make as much money as you do, then we’ll go take a look,” Miller said.
“I don’t know what you’re making,” Cuomo said, laughing. “I hope you’re getting paid a lot for this.”
