Republican presidential candidate and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said on Friday the press is making too much of the recent disciplinary problems at his state’s largest university, according to local reports.

But the problems at Rutgers University athletics include a football coach suspended and fined for inappropriately contacting a teacher about a player’s grades, the arrests of five players on suspicion of violent crimes around the campus, and finally, the arrest of the team’s star running back Leonte Carroo on a domestic violence charge.

“They’re dealing with disciplinary problems with teenagers. This is not shocking, you know, I’m a father of four (and) having disciplinary problems with teenagers is the normal course on a college campus,” Christie told NJ.com during a campaign stop in New Hampshire on Friday.

He told reporters that he will not “micromanage Rutgers.”

Carroo was accused of slamming a female athletics department employee onto the concrete outside of the team’s headquarters on Saturday, NJ.com reported. He was arrested and charged with “simple assault under domestic violence” and released on $1,000 bail, according to the report.

The woman, who asked not to be named, told NorthJersey.com that Carroo “picked me up and just dropped me. I remember that slam. I remember hitting the ground and seeing all those people around me.”

Christie, when asked about Carroo, said: “I certainly have a lot more important things than worry about what wide receiver is suspend for a few games recently. Being governor of New Jersey and running for president is a little more important than that.”

Well, Governor Big Pussy, you’ll have plenty of time to do that soon. Wearing an XXL orange jump suit, housed on the hot-side of a minimum Federal Security Prison, contemplating how you went from Governor and Presidential Candidate to Federal Prisoner!
