Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson said on Friday during a speech at the Values Voter Summit that anyone should be allowed to be President as long as they “subjugate” themselves “to our Constitution.”

Carson was revisiting his previous statement about whether a Muslim should be President.

The retired neurosurgeon said the “liberal media” twisted his previous answer, saying that “not advocating that they should be President in no way precludes them from running. Last I checked we all have the right to decide who we want to advocate for.”

Carson said on Friday he wouldn’t want anyone who adhered to Sharia law in charge of the United States, but that he didn’t have a problem with Muslims holding elected office.

According to Carson, “Political correctness is ruining our country.”
