The co-hosts of “The View” on Friday quizzed Ben Carson on his trip home to Florida after the Iowa caucus, which ended up causing a stir when members of Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) campaign wrongly told caucusgoers that Carson was actually suspending his campaign.

Carson said that he and his wife simply wanted a quick break from the campaign trail and that he needed new clothes.

“Is it a crime for us to be able to go home and spend a night together in our own home?” he asked.

Co-host Joy Behar then noted to Carson that he could have bought clothes in Iowa.

Carson then suggested that flying home for a new set of clothes was the financially responsible move.

“Well, also you know, I heard people saying, ‘What’s wrong with Carson? They have clothes in New Hampshire. He can go and buy some more suits and some more shirts,'” Carson said.

“Well, see, that’s not the way I grew up. I grew up to preserve what I have. I don’t just throw something in the garbage and buy a new suit,” he continued. “Maybe some people grew up that way. I don’t, and that’s not the way I would run the government either.

Watch the interview via The Wrap. Carson starts explaining his trip to Florida at the 2:30 mark.
