The officer who was injured in a car chase and eruption of gunfire near the Capitol on Thursday is in stable condition, according to the Capitol Police.

United States Capitol Police Chief Kim Dine said the officer had been struck during the incident, though he didn’t clarify whether it was by gunfire or by a vehicle.

“He appears to be conscious and breathing,” Dine told reporters Thursday afternoon, shortly after the incident.

Dine said the shooting seemed to be an isolated incident and did not appear to be connected to terrorism. Dine said he could not provide a condition on the suspect involved in the car chase and shooting.
