The candidates were asked whether a candidate’s marital fidelity is an important issue. The question might have been aimed at Newt Gingrich’s two past divorces — both of which involved affairs with the woman who would go on to become his next wife, including his present wife Callista.
“I think the issue of infidelity is important,” said Perry. “He further added: “Not only did I make a vow to my wife, I made a vow to god. and that’s pretty heavy lifting. I think when I make a vow to god, that’s even stronger than a handshake in Texas.”
