Outgoing House Speaker Rep. John Boehner (R-OH) sent a letter to his successor, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), on Friday formally resigning from his post.

In the letter, which was obtained by ABC News, Boehner said it had “been an honor to serve” in the House of Representative’s top post.

Boehner has represented Ohio in the House since 1991, and has served as speaker since 2011. His plan to officially resign on Oct. 30 was muddied by a complicated succession race, which came to an end with the landslide election of Ryan on Thursday.

The full resignation letter is below.
